As a wedding photographer in Columbus, Ohio, I have captured dozens of engagement sessions with my couples. Often time I get asked what to wear for engagement photos. Above all I want you to be comfortable, but I also want you to elevate your images with thoughtful pieces and unique styles. Recently I photographed Miranda and Shane’s engagement, and their wardrobe for this shoot is the perfect example of classic and elegant engagement photo outfits!

Before diving into what I loved about their outfits, I have to share a bit about this amazing couple! Not all Columbus wedding photographers get to form relationships with their clients like I have been able to. I first met Miranda while working with her for one of my 2023 bride’s wedding. She is an amazing wedding planner in the area. We worked together for that wedding, a branding session for her and now her engagement photos and soon her wedding.

Miranda and Shane are so sweet together – it is so clear they have an abundance of love, support and respect for each other. They are so easy going and it feels like you are just hanging out with friends. I loved the laid back feeling of their engagement session, while being able to capture classic photos.

What To Wear For Engagement Photos

Couples come to me as a Columbus wedding photographer for romantic photos that hold a classic elegance. Although my editing style, prompts, and poses contribute to this style, what you wear will also influence the final product of your images. Here are some things that I noticed from Miranda and Shane’s engagement photos that I loved!

Bridal Feel

An easy way to make your engagement photos stand out from other photos you may have is by wearing white. This bridal aesthetic can be accomplished with a white dress (Miranda had two gorgeous choices!), white blouse, or even a white jumpsuit.

To get that same elevated bridal feel for your man, I suggest a formal outfit with a suit coat or any button-down with a collar. In addition, steer away from denim and shorts for a more upscale look.

Comfortable Shoes

Stumbling around in brand new shoes is the last thing you want for your engagement session. If you are uncomfortable during your session, it will show in your pictures. Miranda opted for shorter and more wide heels. These were perfect for an elevated look while still feeling comfortable.

Stay True To You

I may not have noticed this if I hadn’t already worked with Miranda beforehand. I was so impressed with how true she was to her personal style. She didn’t do completely different hair or makeup, nor did she wear something that wasn’t true to her.

Columbus Engagement Photo Locations

I would be amiss if I didn’t mention these stunning engagement locations here in Columbus. Ohio State House is a public location that I frequently recommend to my couples for its classic architecture. In addition, we stopped by Franklin Park for a more organic garden vibe. It was really the perfect combination for a classic, elegant engagement session.
