Bride & Groom Portrait Tips | Wedding Day Planning

Ohio Wedding Photographer | Ashleigh Grzybowski

As an Ohio Wedding Photographer, photographing bride and groom portraits is one of my favorite parts of the wedding day! These are the photographs that are most highly printed by couples and family members. Below are my favorite tips for helping couples prepare for their portrait time on the wedding day.

Bring the Bouquet

Bring your bouquet for portrait time! This allows us to incorporate your florals into your portraits. I will alter between using the bouquet and removing it for other portraits. This more variety in your gallery and allows for creative portraits as well using the bouquet. We will also use the bouquet during individual bridal portraits.

Veil

If a veil is included in your wedding day attire make sure to have the hair stylist put it in place for your portraits. Veils add so much dimension to portraits. A veil is one of my favorite ways to add an additional layer of creativity and depth into portraits. My number one recommendation for wearing a veil is to have your hairstylist secure it in place. A hair stylist is the expert in securing a veil. Not the photographer, maid of honor or friend (unless they happen to be a hair stylist!). I have witnessed many veils falling out of place through out the entire day or worse, updos ruined because the veil was secured incorrectly.

Protect this Time

I recommend 45 minutes for bride and groom portraits. I understand this can seem like a long time for portraits on your wedding day. But, this is the only time you will take formal portraits together on your wedding day which happens once. Also, a wedding day typically lasts 14-16 hours depending on when hair and make up begin. Allocating 45 minutes to your portraits is less than 5% of the entire wedding day and typically only 10% of your entire wedding photography coverage!

Have Fun!

Lastly, have fun, relax and enjoy this time together!! These are portraits of your relationship with your favorite person! Soak up the time together and don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through!
