How to plan for those dreamy getting ready images
Is your Pinterest board full of beautiful getting ready images? Do you love the coordinating outfits, adorable bridal robes and the behind the scenes images of hair and make up? If so, you are in the right place! As an Ohio Wedding Photographer I am sharing my favorite four wedding day getting ready tips on how to plan the beginning of your wedding day. These tips help couples feel less stressed and allow me as a photographer to produce beautiful imagery for my couples!
Selecting a Space
Selecting a space is the number one factor impacting getting ready images. Qualities to look for when looking for a getting ready space are:
- Lots of natural light
- Big, open space
- Muted or neutral colors in the space (light floor, white walls, etc)
Good places to look for a getting space are Airbnb, suites in nearby hotels or checking with you venue if they have an ideal space to get ready. When looking for a space, take into account the number of people that will be in the space including family, wedding party and vendors.
Coordinate or Matching Outfits
Coordinating or matching outfits are so sweet for getting ready pictures. Favorite outfits include PJs, robes or lounge wear. I recommend selecting muted colors as they photograph the best or a pastel floral to add an extra pop of color or pattern.
When choosing outfits make the top buttons. This ensure hair dos are not negatively impacted when changing into the final wedding outfit.
Hair & Make Up Timing
The bride’s hair and make up should occur in the middle of the schedule. This is planned for two reasons. First, it provides a buffer when/if hair and make up run behind. Secondly, it ensures that when the bride getting ready images are taken that professional hair and make up are complete. No one wants their professional images taken without hair and make up done.
Tidy Up
Last but not least, select 2-3 wedding party members or friends to tidy up the space. Getting ready rooms get cluttered fast because of all the people and bags brought into the space. This is be expected. About 15 minutes before the photographer is planned to arrive tidy up the space. This reduces clutter in your images and helps clean up the space while there is still time before leaving for the wedding.
